I'm sorry I really tried to like this book, but I just couldn't do it. I could not even read the whole thing, no matter how hard I tried. I actually, left the book alone, and then came back to read it and I just couldn't do it. There was more descriptions than dialogue and what dialogue there was seemed to be forced. You would literally go 8 pages of just descriptions and then a character would say something random. As if the author just needed to have the characters say something. anything to fill in the story. The author described everything!! For example: "They all got out of the car, which beeped and locked behind them when Daniel pointed the keys back over his shoulder, pressing the button." WHO CARES!! There is no need to ensure to the readers that the car is locked, that is not what we are thinking. And the author makes sure you know what the characters are thinking. And it is pointless. For example: "I know I was never up on all the latest stuff, but what's an iPad for f***'s sake?" The character's thoughts were always in italics. Again almost like the author just needed the characters to talk or think something to break up the descriptions. In short just don't do it. Save your money.

Alpha Second [Whithowe Forest Pack 1] Siren Publishing Classic ManLove edition by Violet JoiceyCowen Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book is a good start for a new series. There is sexual content and some violence.
This was a great start to what I hope will become a great series. The beginning of the book dragged a bit for me but the more you read the better the story becomes. The two main character's Perry and Charlie were great and very likeable. There were a lot of misunderstandings between them and you just felt like shaking them and tell them to talk to each other. You are introduced to a lot of characters and you do get a build-up of some of them and learn a little about them. I really want to know more about Daniel he stands out to me I guess because he is Human but can't wait to see who he ends up with. There is a very heated sex scene near the end of the book and yes it's hot and it was nice to see a HEA for Charlie after everything he went through.
I am left with a few question's Where are Charlie's mum and dad, will they be punished?
Is there another place like the on Daniel was held? Fingers crossed I get those answers in the next book and I'm looking forward to reading it.
I liked the premise. That being said the characters were engaging but terribly frustrating, I was right there with Charlie in going crazy over Perry. But I would recommend.
I love m/m shifter series and am very happy to have found this. The writing style is a little different from what I have been reading lately and took a little adjusting to, but by the end of the book, I had adjusted and am looking forward to the next book in the series. A very good book.
I think this book was great. The emotional turmoil between Perry & Charlie kept me reading, the action of the rescue intense, what happened to Noah his young mate? What ever happened to Charlie's step-daddy, please don't let Bombay away. I want the answer to these questions........ give me more.
I have my Siren favorites (Glenn, Flynn, Hagen, Hyacinth, McLeod) that I always buy, as my virtual and actual bookshelves will attest. But I like giving new authors a chance, especially when the sample pulls me in immediately. If you enjoy the above authors, big strong at times clueless alpha males, damaged men healed by love, great friends, accepting packs, lots of fun dialogue, altered points of view, many new characters introduced that you can't wait to see find their mates. Hurry up Violet get to typing...where are2, 3, 4, and 5?
This is a good story with a great set-up for a series. There isn't much outside conflict between the two main characters, just a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding that leads to a lot of angst. There isn't any sex until close to end because of the misunderstandings and miscommuications, so this isn't the book for you if you're looking for a lot of sex. There is some suspense and action surrounding the circumstances of Charlie's disappearance, but I don't know if this will carry through the series. I certainly think it should and hope it does because there will be a lot of unresolved/unanswered things if it doesn't. The characters are likeable, the story is solid and there are only minimal typos (the most prevalent seems to be mixing up "to" and "too." The only somewhat issue I have with the story is that, given it's written by a UK author, contractions are few and this makes it a very stiff and formal read to this American. However, as I spent the first 10 years of my life on an island that was a British colony, I channeled my younger and more formal self and got through it. I will buy the second book, if there is one, and see how it goes.
