“A remarkable work on the Benko Gambit... a truly golden source for the adventurous player” - Heinz Däubler, Der Neue Tag
Sick of defending with Black? Never found a reliable way to fight for the initiative when White plays 1 d4?
Allow Grandmaster Aveskulov to assist. He has put together a sound but ultra-aggressive repertoire based on gambits that have proved their worth in grandmaster play over many years. The Benko Gambit is dreaded by many 1 d4 players. Black gets very active piece-play, and even if White reaches a pawn-up endgame, he is often shocked to find he is worse due to Black’s intense positional pressure! If White avoids the Benko, that’s when we hit him with the Blumenfeld, sacrificing a pawn to set up a strong pawn-centre and attacking chances.
Aveskulov examines all of White’s options and move-orders after 1 d4 Nf6, and shows an aggressive reply to each of them. He is never willing to take existing theory on faith, and throughout the book presents an extraordinary wealth of new analysis and ideas. He also explains typical plans in depth, so you will always know how to turn the screw once you have your opponent on the run.
“One of the most important novelties of the year... includes material and suggestions not to be found in any database” - Uwe Bekemann, Fernschachpost
At the age of 21, Grandmaster Valery Aveskulov won the championship of Ukraine, one of the world’s strongest chess nations. He has represented his country in junior and team events, winning three medals in 2008 at the World Sports Mind Games in Beijing. He is an experienced trainer, and has acted as a second for the top-class grandmaster Alexander Moiseenko.
“This isn’t like previous books on the Benko... this book has the real strength of taking the total Black approach in hand. Anyone looking to fill out a full defense to 1.d4 would do well to pick this up.”- Bill McGeary, www.chessville.com
“... the Benko Gambit is the main meat of the book, with a total of seven chapters and almost 100 pages devoted to it. Whether White accepts or declines the pawn on offer, Black’s way forward is well charted out. In addition to the analysis in these seven chapters there is a short final section entitled Understanding the Benko. One chapter examines Dream Positions for Black, counter-balanced by the following chapter Positions to Avoid. There is a short final chapter with 25 tactical exercises for the reader to tackle. If, as Black, you like a long, slow manoeuvring game, then this book will clearly not appeal to you. But if you like a bit of excitement, with double-edged positions and the adrenaline in full flow, then I suggest you buy this book. You will certainly enjoy your games, and you might even win more.” - Alan Sutton, En Passant

Attack with Black was what I wanted to do. Valery Aveskulov shows you how. The book is well-organized, making it easy to find a variation you are looking for. There's a section in the back called Understanding the Benko with "Dream Positions for Black" and "Positions to Avoid" also for Black. Just what I like: 12 pages of lucid instruction. 224 pages including the index covering a huge swath of territory with emphasis on the right way to develop into an aggressive but sound position. This book will likely become your secret weapon, because few Queen's Gambit players will be prepared for these rarely seen gambits. With the myriad of defenses they may face, these lines just don't seem to get the attention, but they're dynamite.Product details

Got to love practical but fierce lines.
A solid repertoire book on the Benko, Vaganian Gambits. It also includes all sidelines so it is complete solution vs 1.d4.
From the moment White touches his d-pawn, this book lays out a repertoire that is dynamic and active for Black. After handling sidelines such as the Trompowski, the author begins showing lines that have common themes and vigorously attack the White position. Original ideas as well as common themes and transpositions are shown. This book really filled in some gaps in my repertoire against the queen pawn, and playing Black is a chance to win points, not to mention a heck of a lot more fun!
Very nice coverage of the Benko, including how to deal with White's attempts to avoid the Benko. Covers early deviations after 1.d4 Nf6 such as the London, Colle, Trompowsky, Torre Attack, etc, Also covers the sidelines after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5, with and without White playing 3.d5. This is a complete repertoire after 1.d4 Nf6.
I am an expert-rated chessplayer who has struggled against queen's pawn openings for years. I have tried many different defenses but they either didn't fit my style, or my opponents were able to sidestep them which meant I had wasted many hours of preparation. If your opponents play d4 and c4 (or c4 and d4) then it's impossible to avoid the lines in this book. These lines are tactical in nature and offer Black a chance to put White on the defensive for the cost of a pawn. If you are a Benoni player, then this book is a must for your library, because there are many transpositional ideas here. Highly recommended.
A wonderful book!
The author not only covers the always popular Benko Gambit and ALL applicable variations; both main and off lines, but also give a very aggressive and practical repertoire against 1.d4 and 2.Nf3 systems.
the book has great analysis, but not overly so, as the Author takes the time to comment on the whys and why not's of each critical position.
This really helps the reader to understand the why's and how's of each particular variation.
Of course, this is a repertoire from the black side...so if favors White, don't expect many revelations, but the author does mention some tried by White..so it is just a bonus for the reader that he gets these tidbits.
All in all, the book really helped me understand the Benko and same systems much better, plus gave me a very viable and good wave of openings against the d4 and Nf3 that has always given me problems in the past!
I think you should really give this book a chance!
I am Benko Player and this book helped me building up my expertise in the Benko Gambit and learn other attacking openings after d4. It is my standard reply to d4 and c4.
Now, the book also focuses on some other variations outside of the Benko, for instance the Verezov Attack and the very dangerous Colle System. To master the counterplay of the Verezov attack or the Colle, this book is just an introduction. Specifically the Colle can get you into a lot of trouble if you don't know how to respond to it. I realized after reading this book how little I knew about the other openings.
